Q: Tell us about MeiLi Autumn Beauty and how it was first started.

MAB: MAB started when I moved back from living in China for 8 years and needed to rebrand myself as a bridal makeup artist. I had always done brides but was more focused on the art and fashion world in Asia. Coming back to brides was really wonderful as I love working on real women and helping them feel their very best on their big day. My company grew quite fast and I added on stylists as the demand for our services increased. We are in our 6th year now.

Q: What are some new wedding beauty trends you’ve seen currently?

MAB: Right now I’m noticing over all that women want to look effortless and glowy. That being said we still get a lot of requests for the glam wave and full glam makeup. I think it really depends on the bride and her vision. Here in Hawaii the beach-y waves and boho braids are always in style and lots of last and pops of color too. Been loving the lace wedding dresses and tassel earrings.

Q: What is the biggest piece of advice you can give brides when shopping around for a bridal hair and makeup artist?

MAB: Look at their work. Like really look at it. Are they current, are they versatile, can they do many looks or do they kinda just stick to a signature look. Check out the reviews and the website. Some can be Instagram heavy but not have a site to back it up. You want a stylist that is also going to be professional and help you every step of the way with communication and billing etc.

Q: During this time, how have you adjusted your brand to cater to current and new client needs?

MAB: During this time we’ve been coming online more and more to do live videos and talk to women about their makeup and hair needs and how we can educate them. I’ve taken more of a role in training and coaching too. We are all just staying relevant in our craft and gearing up for a booked fall!
